Support for Serbia Grows in Congress

06. Oct 2026.
Resolution of the U.S. House of Representatives, H.Res. 1474, recognizing Serbian-American heritage and the contributions of the Serbian community to the United States, has received additional support from Members of Congress, including Representatives Mike Quigley (D-Illinois), Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Illinois), and Gwen Moore (D-Wisconsin). This additional congressional support comes at a time when U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking about relations between the two countries, stated that the United States has “very good relations with Serbia.”

The resolution is particularly significant because it not only recognizes the historical and contemporary contributions of Americans of Serbian descent to the development and prosperity of the United States and to strengthening relations between Serbia and the United States, but also calls for the commemoration and celebration of the longstanding ties, friendship, and partnership between the two countries. At a time of further advancement in bilateral relations and the launch of the Serbia-U.S. Strategic Dialogue, Serbia continues to strengthen ties and the foundations for cooperation across various segments of American society and institutions, from Congress and the Administration to the business, academic, and cultural communities, as well as through direct people-to-people connections.

A special place in these relations belongs to the large and successful Serbian community in the United States, which for generations has served as one of the most important bridges between Serbia and America. Support for the Resolution on Serbian-American Heritage Month once again confirms the importance of this shared heritage, as well as the shared commitment to building even stronger relations between Serbia and the United States in the future.
