27 Oct 2021 A promotional video depicting the ties between the Republic of Serbia and the United States of America, created on the occasion of the great jubilee of 140 years of diplomatic relations, will be shown today throughout the day in the heart of Manhattan, on one of the famous big video screens in Times Square.
The 16-second video, which focuses on Marina Abramović, one of the most important artists of today, who lives in New York, and whose only one performance in the famous Museum of Modern Art – MoMA was seen by more than 750,000 people, will be shown every three minutes, from noon to midnight in Times Square, which is visited annually by at least 50 million tourists, which is why it is called the crossroads of the world. The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the USA, Marko Đurić, will organize a reception in New York tonight, in honor of Marina Abramović and the great jubilee of 140 years of diplomatic relations between Belgrade and Washington, at which he will present her with a gold medal for merits. "As the envoy of the President of the Republic, I will solemnly present the gold medal for merits to the great Marina Abramović. This decoration is Serbia's gratitude to our world-famous artist for representing our country, as well as for exceptional merits and results in the field of culture, especially in performance art", Đurić emphasized. The gathering will be attended by a large number of high officials of the American administration, which, as the ambassador said, is a special honor for Serbia, as well as the showing of the promotional video in Times Square. As an important link between Belgrade and New York, the national airline Air Serbia can be seen in the video, which will be shown on one of the two largest billboards in Times Square, on the corner of Broadway and 43rd Street, with an invitation for everyone to visit Serbia. The celebration of the jubilee in New York will be the most important event for Serbia this week, which Đurić started with a series of meetings with members of the House of Representatives in the US Congress. The central celebration of the great jubilee in memory of 1881, when diplomatic relations between the two countries were established by signing two agreements, will be organized in Washington in December. Last week, the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić and US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, exchanged congratulations on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the signing of the Trade Agreement and the Consular Convention between Serbia and the United States. On the occasion of the jubilee, Blinken stated that the United States are happy to mark 140 years of diplomatic relations with Serbia. "Our two nations have a common history rich in friendship and deep cultural ties. We look forward to building an even stronger partnership over the next 140 years”, Blinken said. The President of Serbia reminded that official diplomatic relations began with the signing of the Trade Agreement and the Consular Convention. "The values that we shared then also firmly bind us now, inspiring us to work even closer", said Vučić. Source: Tanjug |
